Brace yourself: the art of immobilization

$125 Enroll

Full course description

As practicing clinicians can expect to encounter fractures (and other pathologies) of extremities with frequency, it is necessary to ensure a broad understanding of both indications/contraindications and application of respective short-term splints.  This in-person session, organized by common extremity splints, will discuss pathologies requiring immobilization (including multiple radiograph descriptions of acute fractures). Each splint will then be demonstrated with appropriate anatomical distribution and application to optimize patient outcomes. Participants will be afforded ample time to practice splints upon their peers with real time input and feedback from instructors.

By the end of this session you should be able to:

  • Describe indications/contraindications for basic extremity splinting
  • Demonstrate the proper sequential application of splints
  • Identify any adverse outcomes secondary to splinting
  • Educate patients on splint maintenance and follow-up

Course will be held on Friday 10/3 10:30 - 1:00 in the Murdoch Building Second Floor (3420 Forbes Avenue).  Course director will send follow up email after registration.
